Hocus pocus (1993)
A classic. An all time favorite. Personally my favorite. This a must every Halloween. It's even good when it's not Halloween. This film was originally supposed to just be a Disney original but it was made into a motion picture, it was just that good. It's the story of three witches who are executed for their crimes. They would feast on children's souls in order to stay young.
Just as the trio is about to be hung they cast a spell in which they will return again if a virgin were to light the black candle on Hallows Eve and of course someone does. His name is Max and to most of us he was a mayor crush back in the 90's.
Max has just moved to a new town and is stuck taking is little sister Dani trick or treating. Things get interesting when they end up at the girl he likes house. Alison and Dani share a common interest for the Sanderson sisters and decide to check out the place where these witches lived. Thanks to Max they end up bringing them back from the dead, they must do the impossible to put them back in their graves.
This hilarious film will have you laughing from beginning to end. Go grab some popcorn and let the fun begin!
Fun fact: Sarah Jessica Parker plays a witch who was executed during the Salem witch trails in the early 1600's. The actress later did some research on her background and was shocked to discover that her 10th great grandmother Esther Elwell was arrested in Salem in the late 1600's for commiting "Sundry acts of witchcraft" and choking a neighbour to death.
Tower of Terror (1997)
This movie was actually pretty scary for Disney. The films starts of with five people dying in an elevator, including a little girl who is a child actress. Not only do they die but they become ghosts who haunt the hotel in which they lost there lives. No one knows what caused the accident.Sixty years pass by and newspaper reporter Buzzy Crocker and his niece Anna appear.
Soon they meet an interesting elderly women by the name of Abigail Gregory. She claims that the nanny of the little girl who was also on the elevator caused this incident. She tried to cast en evil spell on the child actress but it backfired and trapped all five members inside. The only way to reverse the spell is to fix the elevator and to find an object that belonged to each member who was aboard. Then they must again all take the elevator at the same time on Halloween to become free spirits.
Crocker and his niece later discover that Abigail wasn't trying to help these poor souls, her plan was rather quiet dark. She seeks revenge on her little sister, the child actress and they had just given her what she needed to complete the spell. No need to worry, this is Disney we're talking about so the movie doesn't end tragically. The two sisters make up and all five spirits descend to heaven. This film is guaranteed to give you goosebumps.
Fun fact: Disney used this film to test their theory that they could make movies from their rides. Later other rides where made into movies such as the Haunted Mansion or Pirates of the Caribbean.
Underwraps (1997)
The story of a 300 year old mummy who is revived by three preteens, Marshall, Gilbert and Amy. Although the mummy freaks the kids out at first they take a liking to him quickly after finding out he is friendly. He is later baptized as Harold. The kids must get Harold back to his coffin before midnight on Halloween, if they fail he will become dust. Along the way they also Discover who was the love of Harold's life. This heart warming comedy is a must see.
Fun fact: Eric Carmen's song "All by myself" is the only song featured in the entire film.
Don't look under the bed (1999)
Do you believe in the bogey man? Well if you didn't before you will after you see this film. I know i did. Francis is a 14 year old girl who starts high school a year early. Strange things occur in her town and she is being framed for such events. Larry Houdini who claims to be an imaginary friend offers her his help. He tells her that the Bogey man is framing her. Francis has a hard time believing him but finally gives in. She tries to prove to people Larry exists but this only makes everyone question her sanity.
Francis later learns that Larry is her younger brother Darwin's imaginary friend and that bogey men are created when you stop believing in them. Larry also turns into a bogey man briefly since Francis had told her kid brother to grow up. At the end Larry kisses Frances on the lips. The story is a bit twisted. Maybe this is to creepy for Disney.
Fun fact: The actress who played Francis was actually 20 years old at the time.
